BÅL at SALT (Campfire)

Head down to SALT and try something truly special – grill your own food around one of our cozy fire pits. In Norwegian, we call it bål – the warm glow of an open fire, perfect for gathering. Ideal for groups of friends, colleagues, or family! Scroll down to see our menu.

You can reserve a fire pit in advance for groups of 6 to 24 people, completely free of charge. Food and drinks can easily be ordered when you arrive. Drop-ins are also welcome – as long as there's space available.

  • Booking Information (Fire Pit Reservations at SALT)

    Select the number of fire pit seats you’d like in the calendar, along with your preferred arrival time.

    Each fire pit seats up to 12 people. Groups of 2–5 people cannot reserve in advance but are welcome for drop-in. In that case, you may be seated with others if there’s no availability around your own fire.

    You must be at least 18 years old to book a fire pit at SALT. Your reservation is held for up to 15 minutes after the scheduled time.

    We do not offer pre-ordering of food or drinks – these are ordered on site. Please note that food service has separate opening hours. There is no obligation to purchase food.

    For companies wishing to receive an invoice for food and drinks: please send your invoicing details to kundeservice@salted.no at least 2 business days in advance (invoice fee: NOK 65).

    For larger groups, private areas, catering, or similar requests, please contact utleie@salted.no.

    If the number of seats you want doesn’t appear as available, it’s either fully booked or not enough spots remain.

    Reservations must be made before 10:00 AM on the same day. Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before your reserved time and can be done via a link in your confirmation email.

THE MENU

The Cheese Box

The Cheese Box tells the story of Norway’s coastal and mountain people through warm, traditional flavors. The firepit menu highlights cheese as a historic link between inland and coast. Here, you'll enjoy a Norwegian fire-cooked raclette made with locally sourced cheeses and ingredients that truly shine over open flame.

What’s in the Cheese Box:

  • Steikeost from Lofoten – made from goat’s milk, perfect for grilling.

  • Grillost from Hardanger – a halloumi-style cheese made from cow’s milk.

  • Camembert from Gangstad Farm – a soft white mold cheese that melts beautifully over the fire, especially on potatoes or flatbread.

  • New potatoes – sweet and juicy, ideal with warm cheese.

  • Skewers – for threading cheese and vegetables to grill over the open flame.

Everything in the box is chosen to be enjoyed warm, telling a delicious story of Norwegian food traditions around the bål – the fire.

The Meat Box

The Meat Box celebrates Norway’s rich tradition of smoked sausages – both as a source of flavor and a method of preservation. Here you'll find tastes from across the country, made from animals that have shaped Norwegian food culture for generations.

What’s in the Meat Box:

  • Reindeer sausage from Røros – hot-smoked with a mild, slightly sweet game flavor. Ready for the grill.

  • Game sausage from Albert Idsøe in Stavanger – a perfect blend of elk and pork, delicious with pickled onions and mustard.

  • Lamb sausage – made from Norwegian lamb that grazes between fjords and mountains, with a rich and aromatic taste.

Sides:

Coarse mustard, ketchup, pickled onions, and cowboy candy (sweet pickled chili).

Everything can be grilled just the way you like it – gently warmed or charred black – and enjoyed with or without flatbread.

The Vegetable Box

The Vegetable Box celebrates the season of new potatoes and early harvests – when everything is at its sweetest, freshest, and crispest. The best seasonal vegetables become even more delicious with a touch of heat and smoke from the grill.

What’s in the Vegetable Box (varies by season):

New potatoes, cabbage, radishes, and sugar snap peas – sweet, juicy ingredients that taste amazing when grilled.

The Dessert Box

The Dessert Box offers s’mores – the Norwegian way. A warm and gooey finale where sweet meets tangy and crunchy, perfect for the grill.

What’s in the Dessert Box:

  • Marshmallows – grilled until golden and soft.

  • Oat biscuits – a crispy base.

  • Prim and sour cream – a Norwegian twist that adds both sweetness and freshness. Prim is a spread similar to brown cheese. It has a sweet, mild and charamel-like taste.

Spread, warm, press together – and enjoy. A guaranteed grill favorite.
