Welcome to
SALT
In the heart of Oslo, yet miles away from everyday life.
The art project SALT
SALT is an art project that was established in 2014 on Sandhornøy in Northern Norway.
Its inspiration and central concept was the traditional fiskehjell - a sustainable wooden structure that has made it possible to dry fish for export and trade for thousands of years. This trade gave coastal communities the economic means to build boats and develop settlements along the entire coastline.
At Sandhornøy, SALT was an art installation. In 2016, it was relocated to Oslo, where it has since explored new ways of understanding place and experimenting with alternative uses of urban space through artistic and cultural events.
In 2021, SALT was awarded Oslo’s Artist Prize for its significant contribution to the cultural life of the capital.

Our outdoor restaurant is open all year round.
At SALT, we gather around the fire and the flames. Since the beginning of time, people have come together around the fire — to share food, tell stories, and be part of an inclusive community.
Here, you can order burgers, fries, or pizza — or create your own meal with our Nordic-style tapas selection. Over the open flames, you can grill vegetables, reindeer, moose, lamb, and cheeses from across our long and beautiful country. And the dessert? It’s amazing!
Note: For reservations of fewer than six people, the fire is shared with others.

Sauna
The world's best cultural sauna
SALT in Oslo offers a unique sauna experience in a full sauna village with a wide range of options.
Here, people from all over the world come together to share a social and atmospheric experience — right in the city, yet with views of the fjord.
At the heart of the village is ÁRDNA, one of the world’s largest saunas, complete with a bar, DJs, and a lively party atmosphere on weekends. A sauna session lasts 2.5 hours, and we offer several shared saunas such as Skroget, where you can experience steaming rituals led by our own sauna masters.
Need to cool down? You’ll find plenty of cold plunge pools nearby.
If you’re looking for more privacy, you can book exclusive private saunas crafted from nearly 100-year-old cognac barrels.
There’s life, warmth, and magic all through the winter season.
